About ScholarNote
ScholarNote is a focused tool for sharing a private message through a temporary encrypted link. It is built for moments when a permanent inbox, account, or uploaded file would be unnecessary.
Purposefully small
Write, encrypt, share, and let the server copy expire. There are no feeds, accounts, or contact lists.
Honest privacy
Encryption protects the stored note and its journey to the recipient. It cannot stop a recipient from saving visible content.
Three-step process
- 1Write your private note.
Add an optional public profile and up to 2,500 characters.
- 2Share the complete link.
Your browser encrypts the note; the key stays after the # in the link.
- 3The recipient reveals it.
A deliberate click starts the reading window selected by the sender.
Client-side encryption
Your browser creates a random 256-bit AES-GCM key and encrypts the note before it leaves the device. ScholarNote stores ciphertext and a unique IV, but not the key. The key is placed after the #, which browsers do not include in normal server requests.
Unread
The sender chooses one, three, or seven days. Seven days is the default.
Revealed
The first reveal fixes the selected reading deadline. Refreshing cannot extend it.
Important limitations
- A recipient may copy, photograph, or screenshot visible text.
- ScholarNote deletes its encrypted server copy, not recipient-made copies.
- Sender-supplied profile links are not independently verified.
- The service does not prove legal ownership of a shared idea.
- Keep another record of important communication.
Do not use it for
Do not use ScholarNote for emergencies, illegal content, harassment, threats, passwords, API keys, or highly sensitive regulated information. It is intended for temporary private messages.
